Analog events away from screens and jobs

BURNT OUT in SEATTLE

Mid-career and sort of burnt out? This is a project of getting out of our digital drudgery and doing something analog together. No networking, no icebreakers, no pitching.

What is this?

A community for people in Seattle who are mid-career, sort of burnt out, and want to do something about it that doesn't involve optimizing, networking, or LinkedIn.

What we do

We get together and do analog things with our hands IRL. Risograph printing, pottery, paddleboarding - whatever sounds cool and has nothing to do with your job.

What we don't do

No networking, no icebreakers, no pitching, LinkedIn stuff, corporate pomp, slop.

Whom it's for

You don't have to be in tech. You don't have to be "burnt out" in a clinical sense. If you're tired and want to make something with your hands around other people, you're in.

I started this because, turns out, it's fun to do things that are not a side hustle or a professional development opportunity. (Shocker, I know). Sometimes you just want to make something with other people.

Analog Print Workshop with a Risograph

Reclaim Clay Collective · 5:30 – 8:30 PM · $95 + tax
First meetup!

A low-stakes workshop in making something by compromising with an old-school machine. Join us for exactly what the title promises. We will be spending the next few hours attempting to convince a 300-pound risograph to print two colors on top of each other. Abandon your hope for precision or appetite for usefulness. That's why it's fun.

  • Led by a local artist (yes, we pay them)
  • Small group, ~15 people max
  • Low-pressure, introvert friendly
  • Walk out with your own risograph prints to keep
  • Behind-the-scenes access to Reclaim Clay Collective studio

Got an idea? Let us know below

We're figuring this out as we go. If you've got an idea for a meetup — pottery, letterpress, darkroom photography, competitive origami — hit us up through the contact form.

You're on the list. Welcome to the club.

The Threads post blew up (500+ likes, 200 comments). Apparently a lot of us are burnt out. Who knew. First event is being planned now — risograph printing class in April.

This website exists now. We went from "looking for ~20 people" to... this. Working on locking down a venue and date for the first meetup. Stay tuned.

More events, more weird analog activities, more excuses to not check Slack on a Saturday. Follow us on Threads for real-time updates.

A meetup group in Seattle for burnt-out mid-career people. We get together and do fun, creative, analog activities. No professional development. No networking. Just making stuff with your hands and being around other people who also need a break.
Nope. Burnout is an equal-opportunity experience. Whether you're in tech, healthcare, education, finance, or anything else — if you're tired and want to do something creative, you're welcome here.
It depends on the event. Some activities have material costs that we'll split among attendees. We're trying to keep things as affordable as possible. We'll always be upfront about costs before you commit.
Yea. Maybe you're just a little crispy around the edges or want to try risograph printing and none of your friends will go with you. All valid reasons. Come hang out.
Small on purpose, depends what the activity allows. Usually 10-20 people per meetup. Big enough to meet some new people, small enough that it doesn't feel like a conference.

We're just getting started

Come check us out at our first meetup, and then you can say nice things about us here. Or mean things. We're too burnt out to take it personally.

Got an idea for a meetup? Want to help out? Just want to say you're burnt out and needed someone to know? We're here.
